Understanding D-U-N-S Numbers
A Data Universal Numbering System (D-U-N-S) Number is a unique nine-digit identifier widely used for identifying companies in the United States. It is issued by Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) and plays a crucial role in establishing a business's identity and credibility.
Checking Existing Status
Before applying for a D-U-N-S Number, it's advisable to check if your company already has one. You can use the D&B iUpdate service for this purpose. If your company is already listed, you can access your D-U-N-S Number through this service.
Registering in iUpdate
For companies not registered in iUpdate, follow these steps:
Go to the D&B iUpdate service and select "Get a D-U-N-S Number" at the bottom left corner of the page.

Answer "No" to the question about doing business with a U.S. Government Agency unless you're a government contractor registered in SAM.

Use the search function to find your business location using its name, city, and state.
Verification and Registration
If your company is in the Dun & Bradstreet database, it will appear in the search results. Select your company and proceed to register in iUpdate. You'll need to confirm your identity and your connection to the company.
